Who We Are
Our company was founded by Peter Naastad and his brothers in 1974. Today, we are a second generation women owned business (WBE) in North Dakota.
The family is involved in the day-to-day operations along with excellent employees, who share their passion for high-quality work. The NBI crew has the necessary qualifications to quickly, safely, and affordably complete excavation and utility installation projects of all shapes and sizes. It is their goal to provide long term value to their customers.

Our History
Naastad Brothers, Inc. (NBI) was established in 1974. Pete Naastad was one of four brothers who began the business at a very young age. Pete was 15 when the brothers purchased their first backhoe. The rural water system came through the area and the homeowners were finding it difficult to have someone hook up the mains to the rural houses. Marcus Naastad, Pete’s father, said “My boys can do that.” And so, it began. They started with a JD410 backhoe and a 1957 2-ton truck. They continued to provide excavation services in the early years. In the early 1980’s three of the brothers left the business leaving Pete and his wife Karen to be the sole owners. Pete and Karen concentrated on underground excavation since this was Pete’s area of expertise. Karen had acquired majority stock when the 3 brothers left and in 1996 NBI obtained a Women Owned Business (WBE) certification. Pete and Karen kept Naastad Brothers growing and developed it into a thriving company. Their ambition was to run an efficient effective company that they could be proud of. They did that and it showed in the growth of the business. Their work generally consisted of utility installations, new placement, and repair. They expanded into lagoons, drainage, roadways, sitework and any other challenging opportunity that presented itself. Today it is Pete and Karen saying, “My boys can do that.” As Adam and Ben along with Ben’s wife, Kallie, are now heading up the business at Naastad Brothers.
